Montana State Hires Danny Sprinkle as New Men’s Basketball Head Coach

Former Bobcat guard Danny Sprinkle will take over head coaching duties for Montana State as the 23rd head coach in the school's history.
After letting five-year head coach Brian Fish go this off-season, the Cats welcomed in a new head coach to their men’s basketball program. Former Bobcat guard Danny Sprinkle will take over head coaching duties for Montana State as the 23rd head coach in the school’s history, Montana State Director of Athletics Leon Costello announced in a press release earlier today. “There are so many people to thank,” Sprinkle said in the release. “This is an unbelievable opportunity for me, my friends and my family. I wouldn’t be close to anywhere to where I’m at right now without the support and guidance of so many individuals. “The people at Montana State attracted me the most to the position,” Sprinkle said. “It was even more attractive of a job once I got up to campus and met the people and sat down with them face to face. President Waded Cruzado’s energy is contagious. You can see why the campus is booming and why the town is booming. I’m very excited to work with Leon. I know he’s going to do all he can to get our program back to the top.” Since graduating from Helena High and attending Montana State in the 1990s, Sprinkle has since bounced around Big West Conference programs en route to his return back to the Treasure State. Sprinkle began his career at Cal State Northridge as a graduate assistant back in 2000 and then transitioned to a full-time assistant with the program from 2001-2006 and then 2008-2013. From 2013 to now, Sprinkle was an assistant at Cal State Fullerton before taking the full-time head coaching job at Montana State. As an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the Matadors and Titans, Sprinkle has gone to the NCAA tournament three times, once with CSUF in 2018 and twice with CSUN in 2001 and 2009. But, Sprinkle is most remembered for his time in the Treasure State as a legendary Bobcat guard from 1996 to 2000 and an assistant under former coach Brad Huse from 2006 to 2008. During his Big Sky Freshman of the Year campaign, Sprinkle helped the Cats to regular season and tournament championships during the 1996-97 season, and even scored 30 points in the tournament championship. Sprinkles also set the school’s career (263) and season (88) three-point records and is the seventh-leading scorer in Bobcat history (1,497).
