College soccer: Whitworth women cruise past Whitman

Arielle Van Peursem and Coby Yoshimura registered their second goals of the season Wednesday to spark Whitworth’s women’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over visiting Whitman in Northwest Conference play.

Kelly Wucherer assisted Van Peursem’s goal in the 11th minute with a long through ball. Yoshimura’s goal in the 61st minute deflected off goalie Elly Wolfe of the Blues (0-6-1, 0-3-0).

The Pirates (4-1-2, 2-0-1) added an own goal in the 63rd minute for a 3-0 advantage.

Molly Webster had four saves in the win.

CC Spokane 4, Columbia Basin 2: Megan Wilkerson scored unassisted first-half goals 52 seconds apart to lead the Sasquatch (7-2-1, 5-0-0 Northwest Athletic Conference) past the Hawks (4-1-2, 2-1-2) in Pasco.

CCS led 1-0 after an own goal in the ninth minute. Gaby Kennedy added a late unassisted goal for the Sasquatch, who won their fifth consecutive match.

North Idaho 4, Walla Walla 0: Zoe Lee scored twice to guide the visiting Cardinals (4-3-2, 4-1-0 NWAC) past the Warriors (6-3-0, 3-2-0).

Sydney Moore and Ellory Ferris added second-half goals for the Cardinals. Kaysha Bailey had five saves in the shutout.

Men

CC Spokane 2, Columbia Basin 1: Christian Bahena and Diego Esquivel scored unassisted second-half goals to rally the Sasquatch (4-4-0, 3-1-0 NWAC) past the Hawks (3-1-2, 2-1-1) in Pasco.

Gonzolo Frausto’s 27th-minute goal gave Columbia Basin a 1-0 lead until Bahena scored in the 48th minute. Esquivel’s winning goal came at 60:03.

Walla Walla 2, North Idaho 0: Edwin Romero scored at 3 minutes and set up Freddy Rodriguez’s goal at 57 minutes to lead the host Warrors (6-1-1, 4-0-0 NWAC) past the Cardinals (1-6-1, 1-2-1).
