Why to support MAGA
In response to Nancy Street’s letter (“Trump’s ‘accomplishments’,” Aug. 21, 2018) about Trump supporters, our views are not “inexplicable.” Let me explain: Our opinions are based on facts, not emotion. We believe in legal immigration; we don’t condone separation of parents and children at the border. Quite the opposite, we believe the opinions of recent presidents and leaders from both parties. All have stated publicly immigration is a serious issue and needs to be controlled and managed to prevent crimes against the country, Americans and innocent immigrants themselves. Building a wall is a reasonable solution to vet anyone immigrating to America. Much like Ellis Island did processing immigrants coming to this country, they did it legally.
In 2017, multiple sources report 143,000 arrests of illegal immigrants; 92 percent of these had criminal convictions or are facing prosecution. The law former President Barack Obama championed included, among other things, separating children, not to be cruel but to prevent illegal immigrants from using them as pawns in the realm of criminal activities. To compare 400 children who were separated under less than ideal conditions to the Holocaust and deaths of millions is without merit and frankly very disturbing. This is what it means to support MAGA.
