Difference Makers: James Williams and Gardner Minshew lead offensive charge in Washington State’s 41-19 win over Wyoming

James Williams

A 2-yard touchdown pass from Gardner Minshew to Williams extended WSU’s lead to 10-0 in the first quarter and the junior tailback continued to move the Cougars’ offense all game with his legs and hands. Williams finished with 16 carries for 82 yards and one touchdown. He also caught 10 passes for 53 yards and a TD.

Things got rocky for the East Carolina grad transfer in the second quarter, but he rebounded in the third to lead the Cougars back from a six-point deficit and finished his first WSU start with 319 passing yards, completing 38 of 57 passes, three touchdowns and one interception. Minshew finished the game with a quarterback rating of 127.5.

Nico Evans

Wyoming’s senior tailback followed his first career 100-yard rushing game with another one. After gaining just 12 yards in the first quarter, Evans went on a tear in the second and picked up 45 then added 41 more in the third before coming out of the game with a chest injury. The Los Angeles native also scored an 8-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter.
