Gonzaga edges Michigan State in closed-door scrimmage

Gonzaga got the better of Michigan State in Saturday’s closed scrimmage in Minneapolis.

The third-ranked Zags edged No. 10 Michigan State 58-46 and 52-46 in two separate halves, according to a tweet from The Athletic’s Brendan Quinn.

Sophomore wing Corey Kispert led Gonzaga with 24 points. Junior forward Rui Hachimura and sophomore wing Zach Norvell Jr. were close behind Kispert in the scoring column and junior forward Brandon Clarke also reached double figures.

The high scores indicate Gonzaga’s offense was effective under the direction of senior guards Josh Perkins and Geno Crandall. Defensive drills will probably see additional emphasis on the practice agenda this week.

Forward Nick Ward paced the Spartans with 22 points. Guard Cassius Winston added 16.

The Zags entertain Central Washington on Thursday before their Nov. 6 season opener against Idaho State.
