Invest in Spokane’s future
Next month we have an amazing opportunity to invest in Spokane’s future.
A new school bond on the November 6th ballot – a historic partnership between Spokane Public Schools and the city of Spokane – will take advantage of city-owned property and resources to build three new middle schools and replace three other middle schools. This effort will allow for sixth-graders to move out of elementary schools and into these new buildings, thus reducing classroom sizes for younger students. All schools will also receive much needed technology, safety and security upgrades.
The bond will also support three new libraries and renovate four existing libraries, with a focus on providing improved access to information and technology.
I am a proud parent of one current (and one future) Roosevelt Elementary student and am grateful that he goes to such a great school. But I also know that research shows that reducing classroom sizes and improving school facilities will enhance the learning environment for all our students and teachers. Further, by expanding and modernizing the reach of our libraries, we will foster a well-educated future workforce here in Spokane.
Please vote yes to schools and libraries in November!
