Prep girls soccer roundup: Freeman, Colville advance in District 7 1A tournament
Lindsey Balkenbush scored a hat trick and third-seeded Freeman (7-5-0-0) blanked sixth-seeded Newport (2-10-2-1) 5-0 in a District 7 1A girls soccer first-round clash on Tuesday.
Freeman faces second-seeded Lakeside on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Spokane Falls CC in a semifinal.
Abby Plyant and Brynn VanOrden supplied the other goals for the Scotties while Hannah Plyant made two saves for the clean sheet and added an assist.
Colville 4, Riverside 1: Keren Torres’ go-ahead goal in the 31th minute was part of a hat trick and the fourth-seeded Indians (5-7-0-1) eliminated the visiting fifth-seeded Rams (5-7-1-0) in a first round matchup.
Colville takes on top-seeded Deer Park (12-0-0-0) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Spokane Falls CC in a semifinal.
Torres added an assist on Aubrey Ekins’ goal late in the first half.
Great Northern League
East Valley 3, West Valley 2 (OT): Kaitlyn Harvey scored in the first minute of overtime and the Knights (11-1-0-0) edged the visiting Eagles (7-5-0-0) to complete league play.
Harvey opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Chloe Gellhaus assisted on both Harvey goals.
East Valley will host the district tile game on Oct. 30. West Valley hosts Clarkston in the first round of the District 7 2A tournament on Thursday.
Pullman 2, Clarkston 0: Senior Brooke Whitehead scored her first career goal and the Greyhounds (1-11-0-1) blanked the Bantams (4-8-3-0).
Pullman snapped an 11-game losing streak against Clarkston. Jocelyn Gross made five saves in the shutout and Elise French started the scoring in the 26th minute.
Pullman travels to Cheney in a first-round district matchup on Thursday.

St. George’s 4, Northwest Christian 2: Cambrie Rickard scored a hat trick and the Dragons (6-6, 2-2) defeated the visiting Crusaders (7-2, 2-1).
