Jack Finley’s late marker lifts Spokane Chiefs over Brandon
BRANDON, Manitoba – Jack Finley scored his second goal of the night with less than 3 minutes to go, and the Spokane Chiefs edged the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-4 in Western Hockey League action at Westoba Place on Tuesday.
The Chiefs improved to 5-2-0-2 while the Wheat Kings (5-1-1-1) suffered their first regulation loss.
Finley’s go-ahead goal was his third of the season and came on an assist by Ethan McIndoe, who added an empty-net goal with 50 seconds remaining.
McIndoe dug out the puck from behind the Brandon goal. His backhanded stuff attempt was blocked by goalie Jiri Patera – but right to Finley, who was camped in the low slot. Finley, who was earlier in the day added to Team Canada for the upcoming World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, flicked it into the open right side of the net to make it 5-4.
Eli Zummack scored twice for the Chiefs – giving him five for the season – and Riley Woods added his eighth of the season. Ty Smith had two assists, including the primary on Zummack’s tying goal midway through the third.
Bailey Brkin made 36 saves for the Chiefs.
