Difference makers: Gardner Minshew hits milestones in Washington State win over Oregon State

Gardner Minshew

Twice in his career, the Washington State quarterback had thrown for four touchdowns in a game, but Saturday was Minshew’s first five-touchdown game. The East Carolina grad transfer who led the nation in completions before the game finished 30-of-40 passing for 430 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Tay Martin

The sophomore outside receiver from Louisiana was largely absent in games against USC and Utah, recording just eight catches in a two-week span, but Martin had that many receptions in Saturday’s game alone and turned them into 119 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Martin’s eight catches came on nine targets from Minshew.

Jermar Jefferson

Jefferson had the fourth 100-yard rushing game of his freshman season, running the ball 25 times for 139 yards and four touchdowns. Jefferson became the first Oregon State player to score four TDs in a game since Ryan Nall did it in 2016. The Pac-12’s leading rusher is now up to 866 yards and 12 touchdowns on the year.
