Michael Flaherty tosses 3 TD passes, No. 7 Lewis and Clark dispatches North Central

If Lewis and Clark, ranked No. 7 in state 4A, was looking past 3A North Central, it certainly didn’t show.

“We always go one at a time,” LC coach Dave Hughes said.

The Tigers (6-0) used their triple-option offense to full effect and trounced the Indians (1-5) 45-0 in the Greater Spokane League’s oldest rivalry on Thursday at Albi Stadium.

“I thought that our effort upfront, both on the offensive and defensive lines, was very good,” Hughes said.

Michael Flaherty carried for 120 yards with a touchdown and went 13-of-16 passing for 118 yards with three TDs.

“Michael gets it done,” Hughes said. “I’ve been very impressed with Michael. He continues to get better in the passing game.”

Keani Guthmueller carried eight times for 98 yards with a score and Xavier Guillory caught seven passes for 65 yards and two TDs.

On the Tigers’ first series, Flaherty picked up a couple of first downs with his legs to move into the red zone, then found Guillory in the back of the end zone for a leaping 16-yard touchdown grab just inside the end line.

On the next possession, the Tigers blocked a punt and took over at the NC 33. Four plays later, Flaherty took it around left end for a 10-yard TD run and 14-0 lead. After a short NC punt, the Tigers marched 64 yards on six plays, the last a 5-yard TD pass from Flaherty to Peyton Warren.

NC attempted an onside kick to start the second half, but LC recovered at its 48. Guthmueller busted off a 23-yard run, then Flaherty connected with Guillory for a 14-yard touchdown on a slant pattern.

Guthmueller added a fourth-down, 3-yard touchdown run midway through the third. On NC’s subsequent possession, Charles Avery returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown to prompt a running clock at 45-0.

Ferris 35, Rogers 0: Jack Clavel connected with Brock Bozett on two first-half touchdown passes and the Saxons (4-2) routed the Pirates (0-6) in the early game at Albi.

Jason Ruffin rushed 11 times for 73 yards with a touchdown. Clavel finished 6 of 11 for 78 yards with two touchdowns, all in the first half, while Bozett had five catches for 70 yards.

Nate Schlosser scored on a 4-yard run early in the first and Clavel hooked up with Bozett midway through the frame on a 14-yard scoring strike.

On the first play of the second quarter, Clavel found Bozett on a fade in the right corner for a 27-yard touchdown. Ruffin added a 6-yard TD run with just more than 6 minutes left in the half.

Odessa 56, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 22: Marcus King rushed for 204 yards and scored four touchdowns and the second-ranked Tigers (6-0) knocked off the defending state champion and No. 1-ranked Warriors (5-1) in a Northeast 1B South showdown in Coulee City.
