Women’s Top 25 roundup: Napheesa Collier helps No. 2 UConn rout 16th-ranked DePaul

HARTFORD, Conn. – Napheesa Collier scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as No. 2 UConn passed its first test of the season against a ranked opponent by routing No. 16 DePaul 99-63 on Wednesday night.

Katie Lou Samuelson added 23 points for the Huskies (6-0), who have a showdown Sunday at top-ranked Notre Dame.

Any questions about whether UConn would overlook the Blue Demons were answered in the opening 10 minutes.

Ashton Millender had 15 points for DePaul (4-3), whose losses have all come against top-25 teams. The Blue Demons have now lost 16 straight to the Huskies since their lone win in the series back in 1983.

No. 6 Mississippi State 98, Arkansas-Little Rock 63

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Teaira McCowan had 23 points and 15 rebounds to help Mississippi State remain undefeated with a win over Arkansas-Little Rock.

The win is the 43rd straight non-conference victory for the Bulldogs (7-0), who fell just short of scoring 100 points or more for a fifth straight game.

McCowan was 11 of 19 from the field and has now scored in double figures in 13 straight games, topping 20 points nine times during that stretch.

Anriel Howard had 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists for Mississippi State, which shot 57 percent (39 of 68) in the convincing win.

No. 10 Texas 98, Texas-San Antonio 54

AUSTIN, Texas – Danni Williams scored 22 points and Texas rolled to a victory over Texas-San Antonio in a tuneup for its big weekend matchup with No. 6 Mississippi State.

Freshman Audrey Warren had 13 points and five rebounds for the Longhorns (7-0) in her third career start.

Jatarie White added 14 points as Texas coach Karen Aston notched career win No. 250.

Marie Benson scored 14 points to lead to lead UTSA (3-5).

No. 18 South Carolina 65, Dayton 55

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Tyasha Harris scored 12 of her season-high 24 points in the third quarter and South Carolina beat Dayton

Harris made South Carolina’s first 3-pointer of the game with 1:29 left in the third quarter and she finished with 12 of the Gamecocks’ 23 points in the quarter.

South Carolina allowed just four points over the final 10 minutes.

Nelly Perry added 10 points for South Carolina (4-3), which had a 22-3 advantage in bench points and a 32-18 edge for points in the paint.

Julia Chandler scored 15 points for Dayton (2-4).

No. 22 Marquette 83, Milwaukee 74

MILWAUKEE – Allazia Blockton scored 28 points, Natisha Hiedeman had 17 and No. 22 Marquette beat crosstown rival Milwaukee 83-74 on Wednesday night.

Blockton was 11-of-19 shooting, including 4 of 5 on 3-pointers, for her third 20-point game of the season. Hiedeman also had four 3-pointers.

Erika Davenport added 14 points and Danielle King 10 for the Golden Eagles (5-1), who made 10 of 19 outside the arc for 53 percent.

Two career school records fell for Marquette. Blockton became the leader for field goals made, breaking Julie Sievers’ 35-year-old record, and Hiedeman is the new 3-point leader, topping Lori Goerlitz’ 23-year-old record.

Sydney Levy scored a career-best 19 points, hitting five 3-pointers for the Panthers (2-5).

South Dakota 64, No. 23 Iowa State 59

VERMILLION, S.D. – Ciara Duffy made five 3-pointers and scored 17 points, Allison Arens added three 3-pointers and 11 points and South Dakota beat Iowa State.

The Cyclones rallied from an 18-point fourth-quarter deficit to pull within three points with 1:19 remaining, but Madison McKeever’s free throws with 14 seconds left sealed it for South Dakota.

Hannah Sjerven had 10 points and 10 rebounds for South Dakota (6-1), which hosted Iowa State for the first time since 1984.

South Dakota knocked down six 3-pointers in the second quarter, outscoring Iowa State 22-9 for a 35-18 halftime advantage.

Madison Wise made three 3-pointers and scored a season-high 19 points for Iowa State (5-1), which entered one of just 37 unbeaten teams in Division I.

No. 24 Drake 85, Creighton 69

OMAHA, Neb. – Becca Hittner scored 15 of her 23 points in the fourth quarter to help Drake pull away.

Hittner matched her season high and surpassed 1,000 points in her career for the Bulldogs (7-1).

Drake outscored the Bluejays 13-3 to start the fourth quarter to stretch its lead to 75-62. Creighton (1-4) got no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

No. 25 Kentucky 87, Morehead State 57

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Maci Morris scored a season-high 31 points and Kentucky opened a double-digit lead midway through the first quarter on its way to beating Morehead State.

Morris made three of her four 3-pointers while scoring 16 points during a 23-6 run that put the Wildcats (8-0) up 52-23 at halftime.

Aliyah Jeune led Morehead State (6-2) with 15 points.
