Gonzaga’s Rui Hachimura, Zach Norvell Jr. selected to Maui All-Tournament team
Gonzaga had numerous candidates but settled for two representatives on the Maui Invitational All-Tournament team.
Tournament most valuable player Rui Hachimura and wing Zach Norvell Jr. were joined by Duke’s Tre Jones and RJ Barrett, Arizona’s Justin Coleman and Auburn’s Jared Harper on the all-ournament team.
Hachimura averaged 22.3 points and six rebounds in Gonzaga’s three victories, including an 89-87 thriller over top-ranked Duke in Wednesday’s championship game.
The junior forward made 54.5 percent of his shots, including a 3-of-6 effort on 3-pointers, and 16 of 23 free throws.
Norvell made nine 3-pointers while averaging 17.7 points. He had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the semifinal victory against Arizona. He also had six assists against the Wildcats.
Brandon Clarke, Josh Perkins and reserve forward Jeremy Jones had strong tournaments.
Clarke averaged 15 points, five blocks and 3.7 rebounds. He made 19 of 23 field-goal attempts (82.6 percent). Perkins connected on six 3-pointers en route to 12.3 points per game. He added 8.3 assists and 5.0 steals. Jones gave GU a huge lift against Illinois with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He averaged 7.7 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 7.0 rebounds.
