Finally ready to govern?
Columnist Robert J. Samuelsen made the following observation in today’s Opinion page (“Can they overcome distrust?” Nov. 11, 2018) to explain his skepticism that a newly divided government will lead to legislative progress.
“Finally, there’s a feeling in both parties that inaction is often more politically advantageous than compromise. It’s better to have an ‘issue’ than a messy negotiation.” Bingo.
So, Rep. McMorris Rodgers, is he right or wrong? Now that you can’t keep legislation off the floor of the House by ignoring your peers across the aisle, are you finally, at long last, ready to make the compromises governing will require?
When the new Democratic majority proposes solutions to pressing issues, will you respond with hyperbolic opposition or enter into negotiation?
