Advisory vote is democratic
I was initially shocked and then became downright mad at Mr. Nichols suggesting that I along with the other 40,784 voters were “misinformed and misguided” on the advisory vote for the location of a new football stadium (“Board should ignore vote, build downtown,” Nov. 9, 2018). “Disregard the votes and build it downtown anyway.”
Wow - I thought we were a democracy, Dave! Yes, the vote was not binding as to where the stadium should be built, but to ignore the fact by a vote of 40,000 votes for the Albi site vs. 22,000 for downtown should not be overlooked or simply dismissed. There are pros and cons for both sites. But to suggest the “folks are tired of driving way out there” (Albi) and “parking unequivocally would not be a problem at a downtown arena,” makes me think it is Mr. Nichols who is the one misinformed - and somewhat arrogant, to boot.
