Hear every voice, Cathy

Born in Spokane to a life of music, I have been blessed to participate in many musical groups — from bands to the youth symphony and more. As an educator in the Spokane Valley for 37 years, I had the privilege of sharing music with countless students.

A most important take-away from a lifetime in music is that every voice matters. A group is only as good as the weakest link, so the best groups work to raise everyone up. It is in that spirit I want to thank Lisa Brown for running in this past election. I voted for her because I believed her intent was to represent all the voices in Eastern Washington.

I watched Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ acceptance speech hopeful that the close election would wake her up to the fact nearly half of her constituents are not represented when she serves by donning a red jersey.

I beg you, Cathy, to take a lesson from musicians. Listen to every voice … represent all of us. Attend a Spokane Symphony concert. Hear the possibilities and the heights reached when a group has the intent to speak as one. Hear new possibilities for Eastern Washington.
