We can do better, Spokane

What has happened to the Spokane I grew up in I the ‘50s and ‘60s ? We had a real gentleman named Tom Foley who served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 30 years. He eventually became Speaker of the House. During the ‘60s at a time of real turbulence, he was a statesman and not just a politician. Tom believed right makes might - not might makes right. He believed that hard-working people deserved to be treated with respect and should be rewarded for their hard work. He also found ways to work across the aisle in Congress even with people he disagreed with, but still showed them respect.

What do we have now? Cathy McMorris Rodgers. She believes the rich should get richer. The middle class is just there to be taken advantage of by her and her beloved President Trump. The waitress at Denny’s with two kids does not deserve health care for her family. She is just there to smile and bear it while serving us cups of coffee. Lying is OK because her commander in chief does it every time he opens his mouth. The U.S. military - who are our real heroes - should be commanded by a five-time draft dodger and egomaniac. Work across the aisle? No way. It is her way or the highway.

Come on, Spokane, we really can do better than this. Did not happen this time, but we get another chance two years from now and it will be here before we know it. Just something to think about.
