Women’s basketball: Borislava Hristova scores 31 points to lead Washington State to double-overtime win

Borislava Hristova scored six of her 31 points in the second overtime Friday and Washington State’s women’s basketball team registered the first win of the Kamie Ethridge era with an 87-84 double-overtime nonconference win over visiting Nebraska.

Hristova shot 12 of 21 from the field to lead the Cougars’ 31-for-68 night. Her jumper with 24 seconds left in the second OT snapped an 84-all tie.

WSU’s Maria Kostourkova, who powered for a game-high 19 rebounds, hit an off-balance jumper with 2 seconds left in the first OT to tie the game at 78.

The Cougars (1-2) held a 60-49 lead after three quarters. Nebraska (1-2) went on a 15-3 run in the fourth quarter to rally.

Montana Tech 68, Whitworth 52: Mollie Peoples came off the bench for a team-high 14 points, hitting 6 of 11 from floor, and the Orediggers (6-1) pulled away in the second half to defeat the Pirates, who made their season debut at their Whit Classic.

Megan Dorney led Whitworth with 16 points and nine rebounds. Camy Aguinaldo added 15 points and seven steals.

Whitworth was outrebounded 46-36.

(4) Mesa (Arizona) 86, North Idaho 72: Cheyenne Begay finished with 24 points and 10 assists and the fourth-ranked Thunderbirds (1-5) scored 37 points in the fourth quarter to spoil the visiting Cardinals’ season opener.

Alivia Williams scored 20 points, Halle Eborall added 19, and Heidi Sellman had eight rebounds for NIC.
