When the Seahawks traveled to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Sunday to battle the Rams, it gave Eastern Washington’s Cooper Kupp another opportunity to take on his home state team.

The Rams defeated the Seahawks 36-31.

Unfortunately for Kupp, it was the third time this season and the second time against the Seahawks he was unable to finish a game.

Kupp went down with a non-contact knee injury with 9:22 left to go in the game and did not return.

On a first-and-10 play from the Seahawks 24 quarterback Jared Goff had to throw it away to avoid the oncoming pass rusher. Kupp was trying to break outside against Shaquill Griffin when his left knee buckled and Kupp crumbled to the ground. The training staff were on the field in seconds before he was able to get up and was escorted to the locker room.

Kupp caught five passes on six targets for 39 yards in the first half, leading the Rams’ full load of skill players. He had a long of 25 yards. He did not catch a pass in the second half.

Kupp, a former EWU standout out of Yakima’s Davis High School, has been a favorite target in the powerful Rams offense. As a rookie, he had 62 receptions for 869 yards and five touchdowns. This season, he was on pace for almost 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns even though he missed three and a half games due to a concussion and a sprained knee.

Sunday’s injury may be much more serious, the Associated Press reported later in the day:

“I don’t think it’s good,” Rams coach Sean McVay said in an Associated Press story. “It’s his knee. We’ll get the MRI, but it doesn’t look good right now.”

Kupp led the Rams last season with 869 yards receiving as a rookie.

“It doesn’t look great. He’s been a valuable piece of our team, and a guy we’ll miss,” Rams quarterback Jared Goff said. “Like a lot of us, he’s been through a lot this week. He’s a tough guy (with) a tough family, and I know he’ll come out stronger through it all.”
