Two more goals for Riley Woods, but Chiefs fall 7-5 at Victoria
VICTORIA, B.C. – The Victoria Royals scored on their first two shots, just 9 seconds and 1:55 into the first period, and never looked back Friday night en route to a 7-5 Western Hockey League victory over Spokane at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
The Chiefs lost their their third consecutive game for the first time this season.
After the quick early goals by Tarun Fizer and D-Jay Jerome, Riley Woods scored twice in the first period, his second straight game with two goals, as Spokane trailed 3-2 after one. Woods leads the Chiefs with 14 goals. Luke Toporowski added a power-play goal late in the second period as Spokane was down 5-3 after two.
Ethan McIndoe’s goal 2:38 into the third period cut the lead to one, but goals by Jerome and Scott Walford midway through the third, 3:23 apart, blew the game open. Carter Chorney added a late goal for Spokane.
The Chiefs (8-7-1-2) remain in fourth place in the WHL’s U.S. Division with 19 points. Victoria hosts Spokane again on Saturday at 7:05.
