Prep football roundup: Mt. Spokane ousted from State 3A tourney by Timberline
Mason Joubert kicked a 21-yard field goal with just less than 4 minutes to play Friday and eighth-seeded Timberline (9-2) eliminated ninth-seeded Mt. Spokane (7-3) 22-20 in a State 3A first-round game at South Sound Stadium in Lacey, Washington.
Mt. Spokane’s Brady Hill scored on a 52-yard run in the first quarter. Kannon Katzer returned a kickoff 80 yards for a score and caught an 8-yard TD pass from Hill.
Hunter Campau had two short touchdown runs for Timberline.
Royal 41, Riverside 0: Alonso Hernandez ran for four touchdowns and the top-ranked Knights (11-0) eliminated the visiting 16th-seeded Rams (6-5) in a State 1A first-round game.
Chewelah 34, Columbia (Burbank) 14: Kaden Krouse had touchdown runs of 31 and 40 yards and the fifth-seeded Cougars (8-3) eliminated the 12th-seeded Coyotes (8-3) in a State 2B first-round game.
Chewelah advances to a state quarterfinal next weekend.
Nolan Hanson had a 19-yard TD pass to Jaron Baldwin and returned an interception 65 yards for a score.
Odessa 69, Republic 0: Camden Weber was 10-of-11 passing for 304 yards with four touchdowns and South No. 1 Odessa (11-0) eliminated North No. 2 Republic (6-5) in a District 7 1B crossover.
Odessa advances to a state quarterfinal at Gonzaga Prep HS next weekend.
