Lewis and Clark High School to see increased police presence after multiple online threats

The Spokane School District has reported to parents of Lewis and Clark High School students again this evening it will be increasing security measures on campus in the wake of social media threats made Tuesday as authorities are working to track down the suspects behind multiple online threats. The first message went out to parents Tuesday morning after the school received an initial, unspecified threat was made “to students at Lewis and Clark via social media.” A second message was sent Tuesday evening shortly after 9 p.m. The second message echoed the initial message sent earlier in the day that police did not believe any of the threats made in the last 24 hours were credible. However, the message continued, “multiple law-enforcement agencies are now involved to find the individual, or individuals responsible for the messages.” Additional campus resource officers, along with members of the Spokane Police Department, will be present at the school Wednesday to support the Lewis and Clark community, the message added. In 2015, a bomb threat phoned in to the school forced the evacuation of the campus. Spokane Police, including a bomb-sniffing K9 and the explosives unit, searched Lewis and Clark High School, but no explosives were found and students were back in class within less than 90 minutes.
