Rediscovering our unity

If we are the “United States,” what are the ideals that unites us?

At the moment, we have a foreign power actively disuniting us, supported by some Americans, sowing discord, magnifying divisions of every sort, encouraging people to view their neighbors with suspicion, and most of all, substituting beliefs for facts. Russian political philosopher Aleksandr Dugin, author of “Geopolitics,” a book closely followed by Putin and many of his military advisers, laid out this detailed strategy for the dismantling of Western democratic systems over 20 years ago. “It is especially important to introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements – extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the U.S. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics …”

Sound familiar? Putin’s (and Bannon’s) playbook.

Our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution are the best defense. But we must read and internalize them. “All men are created equal.” “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” “Justice (for all), domestic Tranquility, common defense, general welfare.” These are the ideals which unite us. Resist all attempts to disunite us!
