Mitchell a friend to mental health

I’m writing in support of Judge Mitchell’s re-election.

In addition to having more than 16 years of experience as a district court judge, Judge Mitchell runs Kootenai County’s Mental Health (Drug) Court.

A decade ago I stood before Judge Mitchell almost every Thursday morning for close to two years. He listened to me and hundreds more since talk about our week, our struggles, successes and failures. He helped us address trauma and an illness that no one can see, both things that can lead to a life torn by addiction.

The goal of any criminal justice system is to protect the community while successfully rehabilitating the individual. Judge Mitchell does this every week with around 50 people who struggle with both addiction and an illness. I owe my life to this program and I know I’m not alone. Judge Mitchell’s dedication to this program has helped many people become successful, productive members of our community.

I ask that the voters in District 1 re-elect Judge Mitchell so he can continue his work with MHC. Judge Mitchell has the experience and integrity, and has proven himself to be a great asset to our district court.
