Baseball districts: St. George’s advances in 2B with win over Springdale

Alex Watkins struck out 12 in a four-hit shutout and North No. 1 seeded St. George’s (16-4) blanked visiting North No. 5 Springdale (7-14) 6-0 in the second round of the District 7 2B district baseball tournament on Tuesday.

The Dragons face Asotin in a semifinal on Monday at Medical Lake.

In a first-round game, Brent Fiola allowed one hit and struck out 12 over seven innings and Springdale beat South No. 4 Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (5-13) 2-0 in extra innings at St. George’s. Springdale won on a two-run throwing error in the ninth.

Asotin 6, Northwest Christian 0: Devin Fry tossed a shutout and the South No. 2 seeded Panthers (16-3) eliminated the North No. 3 Crusaders (8-13). Asotin put up five in the fourth inning.

Colfax 15, Wilbur-Creston 2: Nate Akesson hit a double and a triple and the South No. 1 seed Bulldogs (18-4) eliminated the North No. 4 seed Wildcats (11-12).

Parker Huber went the distance and allowed one hit.

Colfax faces Kettle Falls in a semifinal on Monday at Medical Lake.

In a first-round game, Nathan Haglin went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and W-C eliminated South No. 5 Reardan (1-18) 17-2. Jackson Ekstrom went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Bulldogs.

Kettle Falls 7, Liberty 6: Carter Matney drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the winning run and the North No. 2 Bulldogs (16-4) squeaked by the visiting South No. 3 Lancers (7-8).

Cade McKern struck out 10 in five shutout innings for the Bulldogs.

In a first-round game, Alec Fletcher collected 10 strikeouts, Matthew Burley launched a two-run shot and the Lancers eliminated North No. 6 Davenport (1-15) 10-8.

Lewis and Clark at Ferris, ppd: The District 8 4A play-in game between the seventh-seeded Saxons (11-9, 10-8) and the ninth-seeded Tigers (6-14, 5-13) was rained out and will be played Wednesday at 4 p.m.
