Dick’s Sporting Goods will open a second store in Spokane later this year.

The Pittsburgh retailer is renovating a 46,000-square-foot former Sports Authority location at 9620 N. Newport Highway. The company anticipates a fall opening, but doesn’t have a date set yet, officials said.

Andrews Construction of Vancouver, Washington, is the general contractor for the project. Dicks’ also has a Spokane Valley store at 14014 East Indiana Ave., near Spokane Valley Mall.

Dick’s has more than 700 locations, according to the company’s website.

In the wake of last month’s deadly shooting at a Parkland, Florida, high school, Dick’s announced it will no longer sell assault-style firearms or sell weapons to people younger than 21.

The accused shooter, Nikolas Cruz, had bought a shotgun from a Dick’s store in November. Although the shotgun was not used in the shooting, CEO Edward W. Stack said the company would change its policy.
