Phillip James Medlin

It has been 10 years to the day that Phillip James Medlin went missing, and police still do not know his whereabouts.

Medlin, who would now be 66, was last seen June 25, 2008, in Moscow, where he had dinner with a relative before he returned to the Super 8 Motel where he was living in Moscow, according to the city of Moscow website. He last contacted his ex-wife by phone at 3 a.m. June 26, 2008.

“He just disappeared after that,” Moscow Police Department Chief James Fry told the Daily News on Monday.

Medlin’s father reported him missing June 29, according to previous Daily News reporting. Former Moscow Assistant Police Chief David Duke told the Daily News in 2008 Medlin had an undisclosed medical condition and may have been in medical

distress due to missed medication. Duke said Medlin has previously lived in the Juliaetta-Kendrick area.

Medlin and his ex-wife divorced June 17, 2008.

Fry said no one has reported seeing Medlin since his disappearance. Ten years later, Fry said he is surprised police do not have a lead to indicate his whereabouts.

“We would have thought something would have surfaced,” Fry said.

He said detectives attempt to re-examine Medlin’s case each year to see if anything was missed and can be followed up on. Fry said Medlin has not tapped into his financial accounts since he went missing.

“I do think it’s our responsibility to find this individual and to have closure for the families,” Fry said.

He said the department wants to determine what happened to Medlin – whether it was a case of foul play or something else.

“Cops are curious by nature and want to solve problems,” he said.

At the time of his disappearance, Medlin was white, 5-foot-8 and 190 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair.

Fry said anyone with information on Medlin’s whereabouts should call (208) 882-COPS.

Fry said Medlin is the only missing person the department is investigating.
