Nampa college halting enrollment for truck driving program

BOISE – The College of Western Idaho has decided to halt new enrollment for its professional truck driving program, citing a decrease in interest.

KTVB-TV reported Thursday that the move comes as Idaho and other parts of the country are seeing a shortage of truck drivers.

The Nampa community college started the truck driving school in 2009.

The college typically accepts 30 students into the program, but over the years only six students enroll on average.

Mark Browning, the college’s spokesman, said the school places programs under review whenever there is a downturn in enrollment.

College of Western Idaho said it hopes to make a decision on the future of the program before the winter semester.
