Panic! At the Disco’s Brendon Urie comes out as pansexual

Panic! At the Disco’s Brendon Urie is getting candid about his sexuality.

The “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” singer came out as pansexual in a wide-ranging interview published by Paper magazine on Friday.

“I’m married to a woman and I’m very much in love with her but I’m not opposed to a man because to me, I like a person,” Urie revealed to the magazine. “Yeah, I guess you could qualify me as pansexual because I really don’t care. If a person is great, then a person is great. I just like good people if your heart’s in the right place. I’m definitely attracted to men. It’s just people that I am attracted to.”

Pansexual, not unlike bisexuality, is having a sexual, romantic or emotional attraction toward people regardless of their sex or gender identity. Urie, who has previously referred to his sexuality as “fluid,” said it was “never weird” for him to come to terms with his sexual identity.

“I know that it made a few people uncomfortable, when somebody gets uncomfortable about me doing what I used to call ‘stage gay,’ ” he told Paper. “It kind of presses me to want to do it more.”

He continued: “I would go up to Ryan our guitar player, and like kiss him on the neck or kiss him on the mouth and he would be so mad. I was like, ‘I just want to kiss you bro.’ I would hang out with friends and after five or six beers we’re just kind of like smooching on each other. People just get hammered and fool around.”

The frontman did acknowledge that he understands why people find terms like “stage gay” and “bar gay” to be problematic, vowing that he “was not trying to be offensive.”

“I need to apologize for that,” he added. “I’m of the, ‘it’s not what people say it’s what they do and who they are.’ ”

Urie, who recently released his sixth studio album with Panic!, met his wife Sarah Orzechowski, while on tour for “Pretty Odd.” They married in a Malibu wedding ceremony in April 2013.
