For motorists who use Hamilton Street’s westbound on-ramp to Interstate 90, mark your calendars for Halloween. Because that’s the next time you’ll get to use the road.

Beginning Monday, the westbound ramp on the Liberty Park Interchange will be closed until October to repair two bridge decks on the 1980s-era structure. The link at the top of the bridge to eastbound I-90 and Second Avenue will remain open.

The ramp to be closed sees an average of 5,200 vehicles a day, and the Washington State Department of Transportation has mapped out detours for commuters and travelers who rely on the route.

Vehicles shorter than 14 feet can take the Second Avenue ramp down to Browne Street to access I-90.

Vehicles below 15 feet can head east to the Altamont Street exit, travel under the highway and take the westbound ramp back onto the interstate.

Vehicles over 15 feet must head east to the Third Avenue-Freya Street interchange, cross over to Second Avenue and take the westbound ramp onto the interstate.

The $3.5 million project is paid for with funds from the Connecting Washington package approved by the Legislature. Spokane-based Max J. Kuney Co. is doing the work.
