WSU-Spokane to expand graduate degrees at medical school
Washington State University-Spokane is launching two new degree programs at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.
The Department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology will offer master’s and doctoral programs starting in fall. Initially, five students will be accepted into the graduate programs, with plans to grow to 15 students by 2023.
With nutrition and exercise becoming increasingly intertwined with medicine, it’s the right time to expand the graduate programs, said Glen Duncan, the department’s chair and professor.
The programs will emphasize research in clinical and community settings, as well as epidemiology and population health. Students will have opportunities to work with faculty on research involving food banks, schools and community organizations aimed at improving community health and wellness.
