Testimony favors new Idaho science standards

BOISE – Testimony was 100 percent in favor of proposed new school science standards at an Idaho Senate committee hearing on Wednesday, after a House panel voted earlier to remove large portions of the new standards.

That move followed the same House committee’s vote a year earlier to order five sections regarding climate change removed; they’ve now been rewritten, and are back for consideration.

Fourteen people testified on Wednesday, including teachers, students, scientists and business leaders.

The Senate Education Committee hasn’t yet voted on the standards. If it supports them, that would undo the House committee’s action, and the standards, three years in the making, would take effect.
