Boys basketball: West Valley advances to district title game

Connor Whitney scored 20 points, Collin Sather added 19 and No. 2-seed West Valley (15-7) held off fourth-seeded Cheney (9-13) 69-64 in the 2A District 7 semifinal on Saturday.

Cletis Hydrick had 12 points for West Valley, while Camden VerStrate led Cheney with 26 points.

West Valley takes on top-seeded Pullman in the district championship game on Wednesday. Cheney’s next game is a crossover against a Central Washington Athletic Conference team on Feb. 17.

2B District 7

Northwest Christian 69, Springdale 53: Jacob Gray and Reed Loranger scored 16 points apiece and the Crusaders (15-9) eliminated the Chargers (7-15) at West Valley HS. Northwest Christian faces Reardan in a loser-out on Tuesday. Enoch Clemmer had 15 points for Springdale.

Reardan 57, Tekoa-Rosalia 35: Andrew Alsept scored 15 points and the Indians (8-15) eliminated the Timberwolves (4-18) at West Valley HS. Craig Mueller led T-R with 11 points.

Davenport 61, Kettle Falls 45: Peyton Buchanan tallied 12 points with 16 rebounds and the Gorillas (12-11) defeated the Bulldogs (7-15) at West Valley HS. Davenport plays Asotin in a loser-out game on Tuesday. Cade McKern, Marcelo Mendez and Matt Thompson paced Kettle Falls with 10 points apiece.

Asotin 60, Wilbur-Creston 44: Eli Engledow scored 17 points and the Panthers (10-11) eliminated the Wildcats (2-20) at West Valley HS. Brayden Saylor led Wilbur-Creston with 12 points.

1B District 7

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 50, Cusick 37: Maguire Isaak scored 18 points and the Warriors (17-5) beat the Panthers (15-6) in a district semifinal at Deer Park HS. ACH takes on Wellpinit in the district championship game on Friday. Payton Nielsen scored 13 points and Hayden Loomis added 11 points with three 3-pointers. Kobe Seymour led Cusick with 15 points.

Wellpinit 68, Odessa 63: Tyronne Dorris scored 21 points while Butch Flett had 13 points with 12 rebounds and seven assists and the Redskins (16-6) edged the Tigers (19-3) in a district semifinal at Deer Park HS. Ryan Moffet scored 39 points for Odessa. Odessa faces a loser-out game against Columbia on Wednesday.

Columbia 43, Republic 42: August Wagner scored 13 points and the Lions (11-10) eliminated the Tigers (6-17) at Deer Park HS. Joe Koepke led Republic with 18 points.

Selkirk 62, Northport 22: Ryan Zimmerman scored 15 points and the Rangers (12-9) eliminated the Mustangs (5-17) at Deer Park HS. Trenton Baribault led Northport with 10 points. Selkirk faces Cusick in a loser-out game on Wednesday.

1B District 9

Garfield-Palouse 53, Oakesdale 44: Blake Jones scored 22 points with 10 rebounds and the visiting third-seeded Vikings (16-5) beat the second-seeded Nighthawks (17-4) in a district semifinal. Evan Henning led Oakesdale with 12 points. Garfield-Palouse plays Pomeroy in the district championship game at Walla Walla CC on Friday, while Oakesdale faces a loser-out against Touchet on Tuesday.

Pomeroy 57, Prescott 28: Devon Caruso scored 14 points and the Pirates (19-2) beat the visiting fifth-seeded Tigers (9-10) in a district semifinal. Prescott faces a loser-out against Colton on Tuesday at Walla Walla CC.
