Spokane Chiefs win in overtime on Kailer Yamamoto goal
EVERETT – Kailer Yamamoto scored his 11th goal of the season with just over 2 minutes left in overtime and the Spokane Chiefs edged the Everett Silvertips 2-1 in Western Hockey League action at the XFINITY Arena.
Spokane (29-19-3-2, 63 points) took sole possession of third in the U.S. Division while Everett (34-17-2-2, 72 points) stayed safely in first.
With goalie Dawson Weatherill pulled, Jaret Anderson-Dolan banged one home from between the circles for his 29th goal of the season with less than 2 minutes left in regulation to tie it.
Everett broke on top midway through the first period with Garrett Pilon scoring his 26th goal of the season from Riley Sutter and Connor Dewar.
Yamamoto thought he had tied it early in the second period with a tip in, but the officials ruled the puck was played with a high stick and goal was waived off.
Spokane was 4 for 4 on the penalty kill.
The Chiefs finish a seven-game road trip on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. against Tri-City in Kennewick.
