He kissed only one girl

“He kissed only one girl!” This is one of the many refreshing and homespun anecdotes about President George H. W. Bush, who passed away on Nov. 30.

Honorable, decent, compassionate, “color-blind,” unpretentious, humble and honest — he was the perfect leader, family man, gentleman and friend. That “girl” of course, was First Lady Barbara Bush. A feisty and devoted matriarch, there was no phoniness about Barbara — no selfishness. There was a lot of humor and unconditional love.

After decades of serving our beloved county, truly service with wisdom, with compassion, and without scandal, George Bush went peacefully home to join that girl he loved so well and wholeheartedly.

I believe that our newly-elected members of the House of Representatives will aspire to the example of President Bush’s public life of service and honor. And I hope these women and men will research and learn from his life as a leader of the free world, as a true American patriot, one of a kind.

In my book, he will always be “ein Mensch.”

Rest in peace with your one and only girl!
