College volleyball: Top-seeded Stanford eliminates Washington State in NCAA Tournament regional
Kathryn Plummer tallied 24 kills and 12 digs, Jenna Gray added 52 assists, and No. 1 seed Stanford beat Washington State 25-17, 24-26, 25-14, 25-19 Friday in an NCAA Tournament regional semifinal in Stanford, California.
Tami Alade added 12 digs for the Cardinal (31-1), who had four attackers with double-digit kills. Stanford set a school record with its 29th straight win and has won 35 straight at home, the longest streak in the nation.
Morgan Hentz added 25 digs for the Cardinal, who limited the Cougars to a .161 hitting percentage.
Taylor Mims notched 17 kills and Ashley Brown totaled 35 assists for the Cougars (23-10), who had their four-match winning streak snapped.
Alexis Dirige picked up 21 digs and Claire Martin tacked on 10 blocks for WSU.
Stanford beat Washington State for the third time this season, dropping only two sets along the way. The Cardinal will face Penn State Saturday in the regional final.
The Nittany Lions reached the final eight by defeating Washington 26-24, 25-21, 25-21.
Nia Reed led a balanced Penn State (26-7) attack with 13 kills. Taylor Leath added 12 kills, Bryanna Weiskircher had 40 assists and Kendall White 16 digs.
Kara Bajema paced the Huskies (20-13) with 13 kills, while Ella May Powell recorded 37 assists and Shayne McPerson notched 11 digs.
Stanford and Penn State have both won seven national titles in the last 26 years.
