Amber Melgoza scores 28, Huskies top Buckeyes 69-59
Amber Melgoza put the Washington Huskies on her back and carried them to a 69-59 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes in nonconference women’s basketball action in Seattle.
Melgoza hit four 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 28 points and added seven rebounds and two steals. No other UW player scored in double figures.
The Buckeyes (3-3) were leading 3-2 when Melgoza hit a 3-pointer to ignite an 11-0 run and the Huskies (6-3) never trailed again. Melgoza’s 11 points helped Washington take a 32-26 lead at halftime.
Dorka Juhasz and Makayla Waterman paced the Buckeyes with 11 points apiece.
Both teams struggled on offense with UW sinking 39 percent from the floor to Ohio State’s 36 percent.
