Fresno State defeats EWU women 68-58

Candice White scored 21 points and Fresno State defeated Eastern Washington 68-58 in a women’s basketball game Sunday in Cheney.

Violet Kapri led the Eagles (1-5) with 16 points, Grace Kirscher and Uriah Howard had 12 each and Alissa Sealby added 10.

EWU shot 45 percent to 35.5 for the Bulldogs (4-2), but Fresno State made 17 of 20 free throws while the Eagles were 1 of 3.

Fresno State led 37-31 at halftime and stayed in front. The Eagles got within two in the third quarter but the Bulldogs finished the period on a 6-0 run. EWU was as close as five in the fourth quarter before a 7-0 Bulldogs run, including five points from White.

Washington 81, George Mason 52: Amber Melgoza scored 20 points and the Huskies (5-3) beat the Patriots (4-4) in Seattle.

George Mason led 16-13 after the first quarter but the Huskies outscored the Patriots 24-9 in the second quarter and they maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half.

Clackamas CC 74, CC Spokane 71: Koyama Young and Jessica Olson posted double-doubles but the Sasquatch (2-1) fell to the Cougars (3-3) at Spokane Falls CC.

Young had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Olson 14 points and 10 boards while Shania Graham added 11 points.

CCS led by a point after one quarter but Clackamas overtook the Sasquatch in the second half and went into the break leading 44-35.

CCS made a late charge and got within three on Graham’s 3-pointer with 25 seconds left in the game. But the Cougars went 4 of 4 at the line to hold off CCS.

Men’s basketball

CC Spokane 76, Gonzaga Club 70: Garrett White scored 19 points with eight rebounds, Dedrick Pakootas added 18 points and the Sasquatch (5-1) defeated the Gonzaga Club team at the Bigfoot Classic at Spokane CC.

JR Delgado added 13 points and Edgar Najera 10 for CCS, which took the lead for good with eight minutes left in the first half.

The Sasquatch had an 11-point lead with under 12 minutes left in the second half but the visitors got within three twice in the final minute, the last time at 73-70 on Kellan Przyblyski’s 3-pointer with 28 seconds remaining. CCS then made 3 of 4 free throws to seal the win.

Griffin Emanuels led the visitors with 18 points, Shain Scott had 15, Ryan Matunas 14 and Josh Stenberg grabbed 12 rebounds.
