Gonzaga among final eight for 2019 guard Rejean “Boogie” Ellis

Gonzaga has made the final eight for standout guard Rejean “Boogie” Ellis.

Ellis, ranked No. 94 in ESPN.com’s Top 100 in the 2019 recruiting class, tweeted Tuesday that he’s considering Gonzaga, Oregon, Arizona, USC, San Diego State, Memphis, Oklahoma and Georgia Tech.

Ellis’ list, with three Pac-12 schools and San Diego State representing his hometown, presents stout competition for Gonzaga, which will need reinforcements at the point guard position after the departures of seniors Josh Perkins and Geno Crandall. Joel Ayayi, who will be a redshirt freshman this season, incoming freshman Greg Foster Jr. and 2019 commit Brock Ravet are potential options.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Ellis, listed as a shooting guard in ESPN.com’s rankings, is considered a point guard by numerous programs because he’s a quality ball-handler and penetrator, and an elite perimeter shooter.

Ellis had a breakout performance at the Nike Peach Jam tournament in South Carolina. He averaged 23 points and made 57.5 percent of 40 3-point attempts against strong competition.

Ellis, a rising senior at San Diego’s Mission Bay High, picked up numerous offers after Peach Jam.

The Zags also have interest in Austin Crowley, a 6-foot-4 guard in the 2019 class.

Crowley, ranked as a four-star recruit by 247sports.com, announced Aug. 5 he was focusing on Vanderbilt, Mississippi and Minnesota. Two days later, he tweeted that Gonzaga had offered a scholarship but Crowley’s interest level in the Zags wasn’t clear.

Crowley is from Mississippi but plays at Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas. Former Zag Kyle Bankhead was head coach at Sunrise before joining UNC Greensboro’s staff as director of operations.
