Crews continue to fight fire near Davenport

A fire burning about 7 miles northeast of Davenport, dubbed the Angel Springs fire, has burned roughly 4,500 acres and destroyed six structures and seven outbuildings since it started last Thursday, said a report by the Washington Department of Natural Resources.

Another 170 homes are threatened, the report said, with level 2 and 3 evacuation orders in place. Those orders are being updated on the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Facebook page.

The fire – which has been spreading northeast due to dry conditions – was 15 percent contained as of Monday morning, with over 350 personnel from Lincoln County Fire District 4, Fire District 5, the DNR, and federal and other local agencies.

Firefighters are focusing efforts on the northeastern portion of the fire. The Washington National Guard also is assisting in the fire control, and local farmers are aiding crews to create fire lines.

Air resources are being used in inaccessible areas, with watercraft in the Spokane River arm of Lake Roosevelt warned to steer clear of aircraft picking up water.

The Red Cross is coordinating with evacuees at the Lincoln County Fairground Evacuation Center, and welcomes pets and livestock.

Several road closures are in effect, and a temporary flight restriction is in place for affected areas. The fire is primarily burning tall grass, brush and timber.
