Many of us take for granted our rights. A clear example of this is we are lucky enough to not live in a time where we were slaughtered by our leaders for having different beliefs, abilities, race and sexual attraction compared to what they saw as “pure.” This, of course, is pointing toward the Holocaust where 6 million Jews were killed. Learning about this horrific inspired me to create my art piece, called “Breaking Through,” because it prompted this question in my mind: What if I were in that position? You, of course, would want to try to stay strong and attempt to fight for what you believe in, but that would be awfully difficult considering how great the oppression they faced was. My art piece shows an LGBT+ flag with a Star of David and a disability logo bursting through a speech made by Adolf Hitler that suggests the “importance of conserving the blood and the race free from intermixture.”
