A stand-up paddleboarder cools off in the mist of Peewee Falls in the Z Canyon stretch of the Pend Oreille River upstream from Boundary Dam.

Jason Hershey paused to snap the photo of a paddling partner as he completed his multiday goal to paddle all 100 miles of the Pend Oreille River from Sandpoint to Boundary Dam. Although he covered different sections on different days as his life allowed, his total paddling time was under 24 hours, he said. “This last 11 miles to Peewee falls through Z Canyon were magical,” he said.

However, he didn’t realize that Boundary Dam forebay has been closed for a year of construction and landscaping of the camping and boat launching area. The paddlers had to be escorted out of the forebay area.
