HALFTIME: Seattle 3, Green Bay 0
Seattle hasn’t won in Green Bay since 1999, but today its defense is giving it every opportunity to end the Lambeau Field futility.
The Seahawks’ front seven has had its way with the Packers, giving up just 24 yards on the ground. Aaron Rodgers is having a little more luck through the air, completing 14 of his 22 passes for 154 yards, but has yet to connect on a scoring play.
Rodgers was sacked four times and tossed an early interception.
Meanwhile, Seattle’s offensive line – ranked last in the NFL the last two seasons – continues to look shaky.
Seattle generated just three yards of offense in the first quarter and 99 in the half. Quarterback Russell Wilson, who was hurried often and also sacked, had a big run and a 40-yard hook-up with Doug Baldwin to set up a Blair Walsh field goal to end the half.
Wilson was 6 of 13 for 58 yards through the air.
Thomas Rawls, the projected starting running back, was ruled inactive (high ankle sprain), giving Eddie Lacy the bulk of the early carries against his former team. Lacy managed just 6 yards on 4 carries.
Early on, though, it appeared as if Seattle struck first.
When defensive tackle Naz Jones got his big mitts on an Aaron Rodgers pass, the rookie rumbled to end zone for what appeared to a swift defensive touchdown for Seattle.
The pick 6 was negated, however, after a trailing Rodgers trailed Jones before he was clipped by Cliff Avril, a pointless attempt at a block. Compounding that penalty was defensive back Jeremy Lane’s ejection for throwing a punch during the aforementioned play.
Seattle’s secondary was hit with three first quarter penalties, but Green Bay couldn’t capitalize.
