A Washington State Patrol trooper’s vehicle was hit Tuesday morning while making a traffic stop.

Trooper Jeff Sevigney, WSP spokesman, said the collision happened at about 7 a.m. at North Bruce Road and North Peone Road in northeast Spokane County. The trooper was not in the vehicle at the time.

Sevigney said impairment was not a factor in the collision and it was most likely a case of an inattentive driver.

The driver of the SUV that slammed into the trooper’s vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The trooper and driver of the other vehicle were not injured.

The collision pushed the trooper’s vehicle forward into the other vehicle, damaging both. The SUV was heavily damaged on the front side.

“In this case there was not another lane, so drivers are required to slow down below the posted speed limit,” he said.
