Washington State enters first College Football Playoff rankings at No. 25

PULLMAN – The Cougars cracked the first edition of the College Football Rankings, checking at No. 25 when the poll was released at 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Washington State (7-2, 4-2) is also the 25th-ranked team in the country, according to the Associated Press Top 25, but dropped out of the Amway Coaches Poll with Saturday’s 58-37 loss to Arizona.

Four other Pac-12 Conference teams entered the CFP rankings on Tuesday. Washington is the highest, at No. 12, followed by No. 17 USC, No. 21 Stanford and No. 22 Arizona.

The Cougars would probably leap the Cardinal by winning Saturday’s game at Martin Stadium between the Pac-12 North foes. Right now, the Huskies probably give the conference its best shot at a spot in the College Football Playoff, but they’re also one of 10 one-loss teams in the rankings. Four other teams are unbeaten.

Georgia won the top spot in this week’s rankings. The rest of the top-10 is as follows: No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 Clemson, No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 7 Penn State, No. 8 TCU, No. 9 Wisconsin and No. 10 Miami.
