Washington State wideouts Davontavean Martin, Brandon Arconado step up in Tavares Martin Jr.’s absence
With leading receiver Tavares Martin Jr. suspended, two youngsters stepped up for the Cougars.
Freshman Davontavean ‘Tay’ Martin and redshirt sophomore Brandon Arconado reeled in their first career touchdowns in the first half to help stake WSU to a 14-0 lead.
Martin came into the game with just six receptions for 40 yards, and Arconado’s lone catch before Saturday night came in Week 4 against Nevada.
Martin Jr. was suspended for a violation of team rules after last week’s loss at Cal.
The Cougs’ passing attack got off to a slow start against Colorado. Martin’s 50-yard TD catch early in the second quarter was their first pass for a first down.
Martin, a 6-3 Louisiana product, finished the first half with three catches for 70 yards. He dropped a pass late in the first quarter that would have been a first down deep in CU territory. Two plays later, the Cougs turned it over on downs.
