Slowpitch softball roundup: Carolyn Wendel’s walk-off win helps Mead defeat Rogers; Panthers earn state berth
Mead 14, Rogers 13: Carolyn Wendel crushed a triple with one out in the top of the seventh inning and advanced home on an obstruction call for the walk-off win and Mead beat Rogers in a 14-13 in a district playoff game on Thursday. Sadie Bocook went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and Peyton Cusner hit a home run for the Panthers. Destiney Sandgren drilled a pair of home runs and drove in five runs for the Pirates. Mead advances to play Central Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
Ferris 13, Mt. Spokane 9: Katelyn Strauss slugged two home runs, including a game-tying solo shot in the top of the seventh inning and Ferris rallied to beat Mt. Spokane 13-9 in a district playoff game. Madyssen Caverly followed Strauss with a bases-clearing double to secure the lead and the Saxons tallied a total of five runs with two outs. Ferris clinches state berth and advances to play University on Monday.
