Point guard Andrew Nembhard picks Florida over Gonzaga

Andrew Nembhard, one of Gonzaga’s primary targets in the 2018 recruiting class, has committed to Florida.

He announced his commitment to the Gators on his twitter account Monday afternoon. Gonzaga, Ohio State and USC were Nembhard’s other finalists.

Nembhard, a Canadian native who plays for national prep power Montverde (Florida) Academy, was scheduled to visit Gonzaga during Saturday’s Kraziness in the Kennel at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

The talented 6-foot-3, 160-pounder is ranked No. 11 among 2018 point guards and No. 46 overall in ESPN.com’s Top 100. Scout.com ranked Nembhard at No. 8 among point guards and 29th overall.

Gonzaga was also in the mix for Kihei Clark, a 5-9 point guard from Woodland Hills, California, but the three-star recruit committed to Virginia on Monday. Clark also considered UC-Davis, Santa Clara, Gonzaga, Georgia Tech, Utah and UCLA, according to his prep coach.

Redshirt junior Josh Perkins is the only true point guard in GU’s program. Freshmen Jesse Wade and Joel Ayayi are considered combo guards who could see time at the point. Kittitas High’s Brock Ravet, a 2019 guard who has committed to Gonzaga, plays the point.
