Local center ships units of blood to Las Vegas following Sunday night’s shooting

Inland Northwest Blood Center sent 55 units of blood to Las Vegas following Sunday night’s mass shooting at a country music concert.

The shipment had 50 units of O negative blood and 5 units of O positive blood.

Inland Northwest Blood Center has reciprocal agreements to help other blood centers in case of emergencies, said Tesia Hummer, INBC’s marketing and communications specialist.

Both INBC and United Blood Services Nevada are owned by the same parent company, Blood Systems, she said.

After sending the units to Las Vegas, “we are working to replenish our own blood supply,” Hummer said.

INBC’s blood center at 210 W Cataldo Ave, Spokane, was busier than usual today as local residents responded to the call to donate blood, she said.

While the center accepts walk-ins, appointments are strongly recommended. An appointment ensures “that we have a spot for you,” Hummer said.
