Three women sworn in for Spokane Valley City Council

By Amy Edelen The Spokesman-Review

There was plenty of applause and smiles at Spokane Valley City Hall Tuesday evening as incumbent Pamela Haley – along with two newly elected councilwomen, Brandi Peetz and Linda (Hatcher) Thompson – took the oath of office for Spokane Valley City Council.

A packed room of valley residents watched as Brandi Peetz was first to be sworn in to City Council by Spokane County Superior Court Judge Annette Plese. Peetz took the oath of office with a century-old Bible that has origins in Ireland and was passed down through generations of family.

Incumbent Pamela Haley, who was re-elected to City Council, was sworn in by Spokane Valley City Clerk Chris Bainbridge.

Bainbridge also administered the oath of office for Thompson, who shed some tears as she was sworn in with a Bible that included pictures of family members who couldn’t be present at the ceremony.

“(The ceremony) means so much,” Thompson said. “I love this city.”

The three councilwomen took the oath of office to complete vacated City Council terms that expire Dec. 31.

A second ceremony is planned for Jan. 2, 2018 in which all five newly elected councilmembers will take the oath of office for their new council terms.
