Bob Minnix, a former Senior Associate Director of Athletics at Washington State, died Friday night of unknown causes.

Spokanites might remember Minnix for his time as a football player at Lewis and Clark High. Minnix, once a star running back for Lewis and Clark, was one of two prep All-Americans playing for the Tigers during the late 1960s.

Minnix and former Lewis and Clark quarterback Bill Etter both accepted football scholarships to Notre Dame and Minnix appeared in 29 career games for the Irish, totaling 147 carries for 645 yards and seven touchdowns in three seasons. He played in consecutive Cotton Bowls with Notre Dame, in 1970-71.

Minnix came to WSU after spending time as an associate director of athletics at Florida State. The Cougars hired him in February of 2008. Before his stint at FSU, Minnix spent 20 years working for the NCAA, including seven as a director of enforcement.

He was in his late 60’s when he passed away.
